Tanya, 17, is the daughter of Scott and Tammy West, of North Augusta. She plans to attend Bob Jones University in Greenville, S.C., and major in interior design.
She is a member of the Art Club and the National Beta Club, in which she serves as secretary. She also is treasurer of the Student Council.
For the past several years, Tanya said, she has been ranked at the top of her class.
"Tanya has always applied herself, and that's the No. 1 prerequisite for doing well in an Advanced Placement course," Rodgers said.
Tanya credits Rodgers for being a teacher who "stands out" among her other teachers.
"He's makes history interesting and fun," she said. "He really liked to get us to think hard about situations in history and people's motives behind what they did."
