Robert Blackwelder, of Evans, killed his first deer, a doe, Jan. 3, while hunting in Burke County with his friend, Bill DeVore. The 13-year-old is the son of Jim and Dana Blackwelder. In the past few years, Robert had only been hunting just a few times with his father but never shot at anything. This kill was the first time he had ever shot at a deer and the third time he had ever shot a gun.
