Jazz mass

There will be a special celebration of Holy Communion with jazz music at 10:30 a.m. Jan. 30 at the Church of the Holy Comforter, which meets at Savannah Rapids Pavilion, 3300 Evans to Locks Road. Music of Duke Ellington and other jazz favorites will be featured, with a jazz pianist, saxophones, percussion section and flute trio under the direction of Robbie Jarrell. Donations for soldiers

Grovetown City Councilwoman Marjorie Adams is seeking donations of items for soldiers serving in the Mideast. Addresses for soldiers and soldiers who have been wounded also are available for those who would like to send letters of encouragement. The Stevens Creek School Council will hold a meeting at the school at 7:30 a.m. Feb. 2.

The South Columbia Elementary School Council will have a special meeting at 7:45 a.m. Feb. 3 in the media center to vote on the early release day proposal.

Black history event

The Commanding General of the U.S. Army Training Center and Fort Jackson, S.C., Brig. Gen. Andrew J. Turner, will be the guest speaker for Fort Gordon's observance of Black History Month. The event will be at 1:30 p.m. Feb. 2. For more information, call 791-2014.

Food check-out day

Lifeguard training

Career expo

Legal help

Staff from the Georgia Legal Services Program will offer free legal help to senior citizens on a first-come, first-served basis from 8:30 a.m. until 10:45 a.m. Feb. 16 at the Bessie Thomas Senior Center, 591 Euchee Creek Drive in Grovetown, and from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Grovetown Senior Center, 103 W.
