City truck hits fence
January started off with a bang for Columbia County. A utility truck driven by city employee Steiner Jones ran into a brick wall bordering Jack Moon's property on Louisville Street. The driver was traveling at a normal rate of speed, and no one was injured.
Family defeated
R.T. Hardy was ousted from the position of Grovetown mayor by 11 votes in Monday's election. Marion Bryan won the race with a lead of 67 to 56 votes. Also, William R. Cox defeated incumbent Councilman William F. King, who is Hardy's son-in-law.
Schools grow
The tremendous growth of Columbia County schools was reported by Superintendent John P. Blanchard in an address to the Harlem Rotary Club.
