Seniors will learn basic computer skills

Posted: Sunday, January 16, 2005

Sherryl James of East Central Georgia Regional Library is offering her services to instruct seniors in basic computer skills.

Gibbs Library on North Belair Road in Evans will be host for the workshop from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. It will cover Internet usage and search engines such as Yahoo and Google.

"We'll start at the most basic level, going over simple techniques for logging on to the Internet," James said.

James said the material will be fitted to those in the workshop, so no one should feel intimidated.

Besides the class for senior citizens, James offers other options for individuals of all ages. Individual classes are available by appointment. They can be for seniors who are already familiar with Internet and computer usage but would like to tone their skills or for anyone who would like to know how to use the Internet, e-mail, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Excel.

The individual lessons are offered from 9 to 10 a.m. Monday through Wednesday. To register for the workshop or to make an appointment for an individual lesson, call Gibbs Library at 863-1946 and ask for James. Space for the workshop is limited.
