Editor:
I know there will be many suggestions regarding the relocation of the stone columns and archway of the old Evans school, so I'll add one more.
These are part of the history of Columbia County's schools. The logical place would be where it all started -- in Appling, where the Blanchard monument stands and the Walnut Grove one-room school is open for tours.
The columns could be placed on the four corners, and on one side in the middle -- next to the sidewalk facing the street -- the archway would open to the park.
A plaque could be placed there to inform future history buffs of their significance.
