Womble, a 6-foot-6-inch, 190-pound freshman, averaged 14 points and eight rebounds a game last year as a senior for the Lions.

He attended Prince Avenue Prep School in Pickens, S.C., one of the nation's top prep schools, after receiving a release from the scholarship he signed with South Georgia Technical School last spring.

Womble will report to the Fairmont team after the school's winter break and could be eligible to hit the field when the Fighting Falcons begin play during the second semester.

He also could be red-shirted, giving him four years of eligibility beginning with the 2005-06 season.

Womble's final choices were Fairmont and Barton College in Wilson, N.C.

Womble was named to the Georgia Independent Schools Association Class AAA All-State team and to the All-Region team for the past two seasons.
