New office hours
The operating hours of the Fort Gordon ID card office will change beginning Thursday. The new hours will be Monday-Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. and Thursday 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. For more information, call 791-2914.
Makin' Maple
Mistletoe State Park, at 3723 Mistletoe Road in Appling, will hold a Makin' Maple class from 1:30-3p.m. Saturday at the Nature Center. Park Superintendent Bill Tinley will demonstrate how to tap maple trees for syrup. On Jan. 15-16, the park will hold a Mountain Dulcimer Jam from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Group Shelter. Donations for soldiers
Grovetown City Councilwoman Marjorie Adams is seeking items for soldiers serving in the Middle East. Especially needed are blankets; brown T-shirts, cotton underwear and boot-length socks; toiletries; and magazines. Motorcycle raffle
Tickets are available for chances to win a 2005 Harley-Davidson Sportster in a raffle sponsored by the American Red Cross. One thousand tickets will be sold at $20 for one or $50 for three, and are available at the Red Cross office on Ellis Street in Augusta; Augusta Harley-Davidson on Frontage Road; Georgia Bank and Trust on Furys Ferry Road; and Jim Hudson Lexus on Washington Road in Martinez. Goizueta scholarship
Augusta Preparatory Day School is accepting applications for the Goizueta Scholarship, to be awarded to a Latino/Hispanic student entering the Augusta Prep Upper School as a new student for the 2005-06 school year.
The scholarship will cover the expenses of tuition and books for all four years of high school. Students applying for the scholarship must be an A or A/B honor roll student and ready to accept the challenges of a rigorous college preparatory program. MLK luncheon
Fort Gordon will hold a Martin Luther King Jr. luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Jan. 13 at the Gordon Club. Karen Freeman-Wilson, the chief executive officer of the National Association of Drug Court Professionals and the executive director of the National Drug Court Institute in Alexandria, Va., will be the guest speaker.
