Democrat meeting

The Columbia County Democratic Party will meet 7 p.m. Monday at the Government Complex Auditorium in Evans. For information, call R. Terry Holley at 595-1245.

Shoe donations

Monday is the deadline for donations of new and used shoes to Augusta-area podiatrists, who are collecting the shoes for the homeless. For information, call Dr. Kent Kronowski at 724-0586.

Annual meeting

The annual meeting of the Martinez Volunteer Fire Department Inc. will be held at the Fire Department Headquarters, 3910 Desoto Drive in Martinez, 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The accounting firm Cleveland and Anderson will submit the 2004 audit for approval and the operating budget for 2005 will be discussed, followed by the election of two members to the board of trustees.

Dog training

The Augusta Humane Society Inc. will hold a dog obedience and puppy socialization registration 6:30 p.m. Wednesday and Jan. 12 at Julian Smith Casino on Broad Street at Milledge Road. All participants are asked to bring proof of vaccinations, not their dogs. Call 736-0186.

Tree recycling

Columbia and Richmond County 4-H, Columbia County Clean & Beautiful, Georgia Power and the Georgia Forestry Commission will hold the Bring One for the Chipper day 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Home Depot on Bobby Jones Expressway.

Volunteers will accept Christmas trees for recycling, and give away free red maple or dogwood seedlings while supplies last. Mulch also will be available free.
