Earlier this season, the Raiders won the Columbia County Rodgers Cup competition, and took several trophies at Cedar Shoals AMVETS event, the Elbert County Raider Challenge and the Hephzibah Marauders Cup.

The state competition consisted of the best teams in the state of Georgia, and featured five events.

Lakeside's team consisted of 12 JROTC Raiders.

"The mixed division teams must have at least three females compete in each event," said Lakeside Senior Army Instructor Charles Schuman. "I am especially proud of our three girls, all freshmen, who gave a fantastic effort."

Lakeside took third in the Litter Obstacle Course, where the team had to carry a 95-pound simulated patient, two 5-gallon water cans, and four ammunition cans over a three-quarter-mile rough terrain course. The team also took third in the Rope Bridge, Gantlet and 3-mile run events.

Senior team captains John Adam Wilcox and Jamaal Jordan accepted the four individual team awards and the bronze team trophy. Paulding High School from Dallas, Ga., took the gold medal. Lakeside tied Decatur High School for second place in overall points, but Decatur took the silver based on their higher score on the APFT event.

The top three teams in each event qualify to compete in the first-ever Eastern Region Championship featuring the top Raider teams from 19 East Coast states next March.
