Residents discuss what they are thankful for

Posted: Wednesday, November 24, 2004

Thanksgiving is a time of gratitude. What are you thankful for? Well, I could tell you three things I am thankful for. I am thankful for having a healthy family. I am also thankful for being able to enjoy things with my family. Last but not least, I am thankful that my family can afford things that are expensive such as a two-story house.

Savannah Welch, 7, a second-grader at Euchee Creek Elementary School, is thankful for "God. A lot of things. Clothing. Food. Shelter. Moms and dads. I'm thankful for everything.

I play Laura Ingalls in A Little House Christmas. In the play, Laura had to bring in firewood, get milk from the barn and get water from the creek. And it is freezing out!

It makes me think what we have today. A warm house, a fridge with plenty of food, a glass of water, and so much more. I'm so thankful I live in this time! But there are still kids like Laura in this world that have to go without. If everyone would put in at least $1 for the needy or give that one toy you don't play with to the Marines or give one can of food to the food bank, just think how many "Lauras" you could help if everybody would just give one.

I am thankful for having a large family and sharing all that with people I know and people I don't know, because I believe that the ones who are truly blessed should not be selfish and should share with other people. I realize that you don't have to know everybody, just share your thankfulness with someone else who doesn't have what you have. My husband and I are planning on sharing with strangers, and the elderly, too. Because I feel that everyone should have a hot and good meal for this thankful day.

I am thankful for several things. My good teachers are what I am thankful for. I am thankful for my enormous family. I am thankful that I am able to hear everything (almost). I am thankful for our country trying to help others.
