Judicial hopeful shouldn't be rewarded for 'smear tactics' in race

Kudos to Walter Jones for his Oct. 29 story in The Augusta Chronicle, "Howard Mead: Georgia Court of Appeals candidate is accused of using smear tactics in the campaign"!

In fact, on a recent Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. my private phone line rang, though we are on a "no call" list and have Privacy Director. It was a recorded call wanting our vote for Howard Mead, and reminding us that the other candidates were blah blah blah. Same words that were in his bogus commercial on television.

He obviously has more money to spend than he has time to pay attention to the privacy rights of others. If I wanted his calls I would not have a private number and I would not be on a "no call" list or have Privacy Director.

My vote has been for Debra Bernes since the beginning of this campaign season. That will not change. She is a wonderful and honest person who is integrity-driven and her long standing record of service speaks for itself.

Mead doesn't share the whole story, I'm sure glad that Jones did. I hope others remember that on election day. Mead has no respect for my privacy -- how can he have respect for the Georgians he claims he wants to serve?

He cannot.

Also, read Barry Paschal's Nov. 7 column in The Columbia County News Times.

Remember to vote on Tuesday in the runoff election. It is your tax money hard at work. Don't let Howard Mead run amok with another dime of it. You can vote absentee (or early through Friday). Just vote!
