Bowers drafted

Former Greenbrier football player Ryan Bowers was selected 18th in the Arena League's dispersal draft. He was selected by the Grand Rapids Rampage after spending most of last season with the Indianapolis Firebirds.

Bowers played in four games for the Firebirds in 2004, registering three tackles, an interception and a pass breakup. In 2003, he played seven games for the Cincinnati Swarm of Arena Football 2 and finished the season with 15 receptions for 158 yards, including two touchdowns. Defensively, he recorded 11.5 tackles, two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and seven pass breakups.

Bowers attended Presbyterian College and was a Second Team All-American after leading the South Atlantic Conference in interceptions (nine) and passes defended during his senior year.

Swimmers honored

Five Aiken-Augusta Swim League swimmers were awarded 2003-04 Scholastic All-American honors for their academic and athletic performance from USA Swimming.

Trey Charlton, Tedd Torgeson, Rebekah Moody, Katie York and Chris Lietzow were recognized for the outstanding achievement.

The Scholastic All-American Team is comprised of high school student-athletes who have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher and have competed in an individual event in the 2003 and 2004 Conoco Philips Summer Nationals, and the 2003 and 2004 Summer Speedo Champions Series.
