Plaza expands to offer more

The old Food Lion Plaza located off Industrial Boulevard at Evans-to-Locks Road is growing.

L. Timothy Hill, the developer and leasing coordinator for Food Lion Plaza, says several suites have been added to the old Evans Food Lion shopping center off of Evans-to- Locks Road. A children's hair salon and a wine-and-cheese tasting shop have committed to opening in part of the new space.

The plaza, which is already occupied by several businesses, will feature eight more new suites facing Evans-to-Locks.

L. Timothy Hill, the developer and leasing coordinator for Food Lion Plaza Partners, said the site's owners are extending the building because of the high volume of people in Columbia County.

"We had this additional space out here and we wanted to expand (the plaza)," Hill said. "With all the activity in the Evans area, it was time to build additional spaces."

On Thursday, the construction of the 19,050-square-foot building was to be completed, Benjamin Bell, the building's general contractor, said. But he stressed that more work, involving design and decor, still needs to be done inside by the tenants who plan to rent the space. So far, Hill said he has two tenants committed.

One of the businesses, Hill said, is Yams, a children's hair salon, which will offer haircuts to children 12 and younger.

Hill said the other business will be an "upscale" wine-and-cheese tasting shop.

"These are very unique businesses, not just to Columbia County but to the entire CSRA," he said. "I hope to get them open and running in time for the holidays.

"I want to get them in by Thanksgiving or no later than Christmas."

Eddie Griffith, the owner of Big Olaf Amish Ice Cream Shop, said that with the additions he hopes his business' revenue will increase.

"I'm hoping that the businesses that they put in there will draw people to the location, which will increase people knowing about my business," he said, adding that the children's hair salon will be a big help.

"Children love ice cream."
