Editor:
The October 17 letter to the editor entitled Sleeper shows keen understanding of issues facing school system, struck me as odd since Sleeper doesn't have a child in the school system, which is the best way one gains appropriate understanding of the issues.
It is also odd that we are to believe that Sleeper's future willingness to be present in our schools when they are in session somehow magically imparts a great understanding of the school system. So, how many times has he been present while a school was in session before he became a candidate? The writer's statement that Sleeper will make time (at some point in the future) means that he hasn't been in the schools yet. Even if he does find time away from his full-time job at SRS to visit a school still doesn't guarantee he will understand the issues.
On the other hand, the fact that LouAnne Grove is a teacher who has been present for thousands of hours while school is in session, and also has a child in the system certainly positions her to have firsthand knowledge and understanding of school system issues. She lives with those issues everyday as an educator and parent of a child in the system. My vote will be cast for LouAnne Grove and so should yours.
