Faculty honors

Jennifer M. Minnow and Aaron Michael Scott, both of Evans, earned faculty honors for the summer semester at the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Scholarship winner

Melissa A. Brodecker, of Martinez, has been selected by the Georgia Military College Scholarship Committee to receive the John A. Sibley scholarship and the John T. and Gene Williamson scholarship for 2004-2005. The award will help Brodecker pay for tuition, books and uniforms at Georgia Military College. Brodecker is a graduate of Evans High School.

Dean's List

Michelle L. Howlett, of Martinez, has been named to the Dean's List for the summer quarter at South University School of Pharmacy, Savannah, Ga.

College graduate

John W. Mullens III, of Evans, graduated in May with a master of science in administration degree from Central Michigan University.

Dean's List

The following Columbia County students were named to the Dean's List at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga., for the summer quarter: Joanna Renner, of Evans, who is a fashion major and is the daughter of Gene Renner and Sharon Renner; and Nestor Nieves, of Martinez, who is an interactive design/game development major and is the son of Nestor Nieves and Wanda Nieves.

 

Shannon Waters was selected for the National Dean's List upon completing her freshman year at Georgia College and State University in Milledgeville. Waters, a 2003 graduate of Harlem High School, is the daughter of John and Susan Waters, of Grovetown.

Mentor honored

Zachary Zapata, of Evans, was honored Sept. 28 in Atlanta for his participation in the Georgia Education Mentorship Program at Georgia College and State University.

Zapata, a sophomore majoring in biology at Georgia College & State, is the son of Mike and Debbie Zapata, of Evans. He graduated from Greenbrier High School in Evans, where he was involved in the tennis team, the Student Board for Academic Success, the National Honor Society, Beta Club and the Columbia County Sheriff's Office Cadet Corps. While at Georgia College and State, Zapata has been involved with the ambassador team, Alpha Lambda Delta and was named 2004 Summer Orientation Leader and Emerging Leader of the Semester for the spring semester.

 

Sarah Elizabeth Rogers graduated with honors on July 30 from the Georgia Institute of Technology. She is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Steven G. Rogers of Martinez.

College entrance

Erin Wilkerson, of Appling, entered Liberty University as a freshman this fall. Wilkerson is a graduate of Augusta Christian Schools. Kendra Woodcock, of Martinez, also entered Liberty University as a freshman this fall. She is a graduate of Augusta Christian Schools.

Youth leader

Fayelyn Bilodeau, of Martinez, recently was selected to participate in the National Young Leaders State Conference in Atlanta. Bilodeau is a freshman at Augusta Preparatory Day School and is on the Red Cross Youth Board, plays volleyball on the school's JV team, sings in the chorus and is an honor-roll student. She also was awarded the Mary Beth Reagan Award for citizenship and attends Trinity-on-the-Hill Methodist Church.

Program participant

Maria Petrie, an Evans High School student, recently completed a new pre-collegiate program in early American history at College of William and Mary. The program was sponsored by the National Institute of American History and Democracy.

Dean's List

Ashby Bethune, of Evans, made the Dean's List for the spring semester at Augusta State University. He is a 2002 graduate of Greenbrier High School and the son of Carl and Charlotte Bethune, of Evans.

Project funds

Eighteen teachers from Richmond and Columbia counties were presented with $500 for classroom projects at a reception Thursday, Sept. 23, at the Junior League Office. Those in Columbia County include:

Susan Cottingham, Grove-town Middle; Margaret Mud-rak, Lakeside High; Veronica Leaptrott, Greenbrier Middle; Helene Hall, Riverside Elementary; Cathy Moseley, Martiez Elementary; Vickie Dorn, Lakeside High; Betsy Ristroph, Grovetown Middle; Helen Black, Lewiston Elementary; Mary Tucker, Martinez Elementary; Eska Wren, Martinez Elementary.

College graduate

Curtis Frierson, of Mar-tinez, received an education specialist in educational leadership degree from Argosy University/Sarasota during the summer semester.

Program attendee

Augusta Christian senior Jon Williams attended a four-week summer program at Lee University. He took two classes and earned six college credits for the summer work. Williams is planning to attend Lee University in the fall and is considering majoring in chemistry.
