The Greenbrier softball team opened its quest to the state finals with a 13-0 shutout of Baldwin at the Brierpatch in Saturday's region tournament opening game.
The Wolfpack's Kristan Glover threw a no-hitter and struck out 10 batters for the win. She also went 4-4 with three doubles at the plate.
"I'm pretty pleased with the effort," coach Garrett Black said. "We feel pretty good about our chances, but Jones County, Evans, Lakeside and Effingham County are all good teams. We are going to have to play well to make it to sectionals."
A win by the Wolfpack on Tuesday in Statesboro against Evans, which beat Wayne County 4-0 on Saturday, would guarantee a spot in the sectionals for the eighth straight season. Greenbrier would still need to win the tournament to extend its region championship run to eight seasons and to receive a better seed in the South Sectional tournament.
Lakeside lost 1-0 to Effingham County in Springfield, Ga. The Panthers will have to win two straight to avoid elimination.
