Affiliation: Church of Christ

Minister: Arthur Pigman
Congregation size: 105 adults, 25 children
Membership: Most who attend services are from Columbia, Richmond and Aiken counties, Pigman said.
Founded: "The building was built in 1989," he said. "The history dates back to the Wheeler Road Church of Christ, which started in October 1975, and that church has roots back to the Church of Christ in Augusta that began in October 1943."
Known for: Before the church was built, the property was vacant land, Pigman said. The church is known for going back to the Bible and practicing the faith as it is taught in the New Testament, he said.
Music: The congregation participates in singing a cappella. "We don't use any kind of man-made instruments," he said. "We use our voice as (people) did in the New Testament."
What would you say to someone who's thinking about giving your church a try?
"(You can) find a friendly group of Christians who are trying to live by the Bible and encourage and exhort others to live by the Bible," Pigman said.
What do you believe is the biggest issue facing the faithful today?
"Faith in God's word and really being obedient in God's word," he said. "Most of us are involved in materialism rather than God. We're more self-dependent than dependent on God. I think the problem is most people don't trust God in his word."
