The Evans Knights moved to 4-1 on the season and 2-0 in Region 2-AAAA after beating Jones County 21-12.

The Knights were led by Cheng Ho, who had 92 yards on the ground and two touchdowns. Jay Acree added an insurance touchdown in the third quarter, and the defense forced three turnovers.

The momentum was important as the Knights head to No. 1 Statesboro for Friday's region showdown. The winner will take command of the region and be in the driver's seat for a playoff slot.

Harlem wasn't as fortunate as Evans.

The Bulldogs were mauled by Thomson, 35-7, at The Brickyard.

Thomson's offense gained 399 rushing yards on 42 carries in a Region 3-AAA contest.

Harlem (2-4, 0-2) played from behind from the opening drive, after Thomson's Anthony Erwin dashed 64 yards for a score on the fifth play of the game.

Harlem dug a deeper hole, fumbling five times and losing four of them.

The Bulldogs only managed 56 yards of offense in the first half, but they rushed for 118 in the second half.

Sophomore quarterback Brendan Gray broke the scoring drought for Harlem, rushing for a 20-yard touchdown with 12 seconds to play.

Augusta Christian fell 39-6 to the No. 2 team in the South Carolina Independent Schools Association, Heathwood Hall, Friday night at home.

The Lions dropped to 2-3 on the season after starting 2-0.
