As reported 46 years ago in the pages of The Columbia News, Sept. 25, 1958:

Evans Field opens

An estimated 1,600 fans were on hand for the dedication service of the new Evans High football field.

A brief program was held immediately prior to the second game played by the school's new football team. Charles Allen, chairman of the local Board of Trustees, introduced Johnny Gray, president of the Evans Touchdown Club, who served as Master of Ceremonies for the program.

Appling program

An enjoyable chapel program was presented Monday, Sept. 22, 1958, at the Appling School.

Phyllis Joe Means gave the devotional. Some of Evelyn Anderson's music pupils presented special numbers. Included were: Linda Shaw, piano solo; Jackie Gales, vocal solo, The Lord is Counting On You; and a group number, Side by Side.
