When Stephanie Staples sits down at the piano or gets ready to play her guitar, she said she waits on God to lead her.

"I just sit (there) and see how my music will turn out," said the Evans resident and independent Christian artist.

The 20-year-old Georgia native said she doesn't want her music to be like other musical artists.

"I don't want my music to be just music," she said. "I want my music to have an impact on people.''

Tonight , Staples will perform a free concert from 8-10 at Serendipity, 4534 Washington Road in Evans. The concert will feature a variety of songs from two of her CDs, Breathe on Me and Beautiful, which will be released in 2005.

Staples' freshman album, Breathe on Me, was released in May 2003. It was self-written and produced with Bill Hatcher, a Grammy- winning artist who provided the guitar and bass, Staples said her music was inspired by her relationship with Jesus.

"The passion people hear in my voice is my passion for Jesus Christ," she said. "(My CD) was birthed out of pain.''

After battling with anorexia for several years, Staples said she desired to be free from her eating disorder.

Through her time of struggle and desperation, Staples said the album was an attempt to discern the voice of God. Staples said she hopes her performance will help people in their relationship to God.

"I want them to know the reality of who God is," she said.
