Grovetown Middle Teacher of the Year
Ellen Hickey has traveled extensively and lived in Germany for 16 years because of her husband's career before moving to Columbia County.

Hickey had always wanted to teach, but living overseas made it a challenge to complete her education. As a result, she entered the profession after raising her two sons, Paul and William.
This is Hickey's ninth year of teaching. She has primarily taught sixth-grade language arts and social studies in Columbia County.
"The team concept and the middle-school model that is used here in Columbia County have allowed me to extend and enhance the core curriculum to all other areas of our students' middle-school experience," Hickey said. "I credit the success of my program to the support I receive from the wonderful faculty and staff at Grovetown Middle. It's an honor to represent them as their Teacher of the Year."
