County teams post mixed record

Every team in the county faced off against a team in a lower classification last week.

For Harlem and Augusta Christian it was a good thing. Evans and Greenbrier probably have different opinions.

Augusta Christian (2-0) stayed undefeated in its first season in the South Carolina Independent Schools Association with a 27-0 blanking of Richard Winn.

A week after knocking off SCISA's top ranked team, Colleton Prep, the fourth-ranked Lions are probably making member schools regret letting them join the organization.

Junior quarterback Lee Banks, SCISA's Player of the Week after the Colleton Prep game, ran for 135 yards and two scores. Banks is quickly becoming one of the best quarterbacks in the area.

Harlem (1-1) joined the Lions in posting a shut out victory.

The Bulldogs beat Hancock Central 21-0. Chris Newsome blocked a punt to set up the first of Gabe Greer's three touchdown runs and a 86-yard rushing performance.

Jefferson County's Jawain Nelson returned the second-half kickoff for a touchdown to put the Warriors ahead for good after the teams were tied at the half. Jeffrey Walker rushed for 169 yards for Jefferson County, which held Cheng Ho to 13 yards rushing.

Brad Freeman had a huge day passing for the Knights (1-1), throwing for 261 yards and a score.

Greenbrier (0-1) lost 26-17 to Morgan County, ranked in the state's top 10 in Class-AA. Morgan County went undefeated in region play last year and has moved to 2-0 this season.
