Tennis tournament
Petersburg Racquet Club will be the host of the 2004 Banana Open Tennis Tournament Sept. 9-12. Players will compete to qualify for the Banana Open Challenge in Hilton Head Island, S.C., Sept. 30-Oct. 3.
Divisions are Men's and Women's Singles and Doubles and Mixed Doubles.
Cost is $30 for first event, and $15 for the second event. Deadline for entry is Sept. 5 at 6 p.m. For more information, call 860-9288.
Tae kwon do studio opens
Blackbelt USA owner Michael Weintraub will open a new tae kwon do facility on the grounds of the Augusta Jewish Community Center in Evans.

Softball tryouts
The 14 and under Grease Lightning Fastpitch travel team will hold tryouts on Sept. 11 for the 2004-05 season.
Tryouts will be at Riverside Park from 10 a.m.-noon and is open to all girls 14 or under by Jan. 1, 2005. For more information, call 533-3288.
Swim tryouts
Greater Augusta Swim League will hold tryouts for the 2004-2005 season Sept. 7-9. Ages 10 and younger will try out from 5-6 p.m. and ages 11 and up will go from 6-7 p.m. Attendance is required on each day. For more information, call Russ Eidman, 364-3107.
Hockey clinics
The Family Y has scheduled several free in-line hockey clinics, open to children 4-12 years old. Clinics are held at Wesley United Methodist Church in Evans.
Dates for the clinic are Tuesday from 6-7 p.m. (4-6), from 7-9 p.m. (7-12); and Saturday from 9-10 a.m. (4-6), from 10 a.m-noon (7-12).

Tennis registration
The CSRA Junior Tennis League will have open registration for the fall tennis season thru Wednesday for ages 8-18. Registration is available on line at www.csratennis.com. Participants are required to have a United States Tennis Association membership valid through Nov. 30, 2004. League fee is $20 plus a $2 TennisLink fee.
