Karate winners

Martial Arts America in Evans and Aiken recently competed at the United Fighting Arts Federation's 25th Annual Convention and World Championships in Las Vegas. Aaron Hensley was named the Weapons/Kata Grand Champion.

Individual winners were: Weapons-Aaron Hensley, Carmen Blanchard, Tina Mock, Jim Kerlin, Chad Harden, Jimmy Gillam, R.D. Weimar III, Jacob Smith, Beth Carter, Nick Knight. Forms-Eric Hensley, Aaron Hensley, Carmen Blanchard, J. Blanchard, Daniel Hess, Jimmy Gilliam, Beth Carter. Sparring-Eric Hensley, Carmen Blanchard, Rose Lugo, Jimmy Gilliam, Steven Kay, Jake Jarriel, Crosby Broadwater. Team fighting-Ronald McCartney.

Augusta Christian transfers

Two Augusta Christian basketball players have transferred to Prince Avenue Preparatory School in South Carolina.

Jamal Womble, a 2004 graduate, originally signed to play college basketball with South Georgia Technical College but has backed off the commitment and will play for the post-graduate team at Prince Avenue.

Warren Chapman, a member of The Columbia County News-Times All County first team, has also enrolled at Prince Avenue. Chapman, who averaged 17.1 points, will be a senior and has reportedly drawn interest from Winthrop and Seton Hall.

Augusta Prep transfer

Clayton Boardman, a member of the 2003 Georgia Independent Schools Association state champion team, has transferred to the Academy of Richmond County. Boardman will play for Richmond Academy's golf team, one of the best in the state, next spring.
