Most area athletes have already signed their scholarship papers and will arrive on college campuses soon.

Surrounded by family and coaches, former Greenbrier volleyball player Amie Postell signed an athletics scholarship to play volleyball at Limestone College on July 22.

However, Amie Postell signed her scholarship papers last Thursday to play volleyball at Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C.

The Greenbrier graduate might be the final area athlete to sign a scholarship from the 2003-2004 graduating class.

She's hoping the best was saved for last.

"I'm tremendously excited about getting the chance to play volleyball in college," Postell said.

The Saints' coaching staff contacted Postell about coming out for a tryout and a tour of the campus.

After doing well at the tryout, Postell was offered the scholarship.

Postell becomes the third Greenbrier volleyball player to receive a scholarship this year. Jennifer Wells and Rachel Cordier previously signed with West Georgia and Cottey College, respectively.

"That is just a testament to how popular the sport is becoming in the area," Postell said.

Part of the popularity comes from the Augusta Juniors club team that has started to see a tremendous rise in interest.

"The sport is becoming huge in the area and that makes our program strong," said Ron Cupp, coach of the Juniors. "Seven of our girls had the opportunity to play collegiate volleyball and that is fantastic."

Postell said, "Playing with the Juniors was the greatest thing that could have ever happened. It taught me so much about the sport and I wish I could have participated in it earlier."

Lady Wolfpack coach Debbie Born's weight training program also helped Postell's development.

"Greenbrier is big on weightlifting and it helped me become a stronger player," Postell said.

Postell also received an art scholarship at Limestone, and art will be her major.

She says she would like to teach after graduation and would love to help start a middle school volleyball program in Columbia County.
