Golf tournament
The inaugural Restaurants of Augusta Golf Tournament to benefit the Jenny Clark Scholarship Fund will be 9 a.m. Wednesday at Jones Creek Golf Club with a shotgun start, with lunch provided by Fatz Cafe and a party at 6 p.m. at Augusta Commons. Softball meeting
The Columbia County Recreation Department will hold an adult softball organizational meeting 6:30 p.m. Tuesday in the administrative office at Patriots Park. Volleyball tryouts
Lakeside High: Tryouts for the 2004 volleyball teams begin Monday . Varsity tryouts will begin at 8 a.m. with junior varsity starting at 9 a.m. Participants must have a physical before they will be allowed to tryout. Students should wear gym shorts and a t-shirt and bring kneepads.
Evans High School: Tryouts will be 4-6 p.m. Monday-Friday in the gym. Participants must have a current physical and proof of insurance. For information, call 863-1198.

Walton golf tourney
The 12th Annual Walton Foundation for Independence Golf Classic will begin with a golf-skills challenge at 10 a.m. Sept. 13 at Jones Creek Golf Club, and a Lauderdale/shotgun start at 12:30 p.m. For information, call 826-5809.
Columbia County Stars
The Columbia County Stars were undefeated in Canton, Mich., during the opening round of the United States Specialty Sports Association 13 & Under World Series.
The Stars began the tournament by knocking off the Farmington, Mich. team, 8-1. Aaron Lewis went 2-3 in the victory.
The team beat a team from Sylvania, Ohio, 9-1, to move to 2-0. Tyler Barden, Patrick Arrington and Will Anderson went 2-3.
The Stars then knocked off the Texas Grays, 11-1, with Will Anderson hitting a home run.
The team, ranked third in the nation, will prepare for the double elimination portion of the tournament.
MELL All Stars
The National League All Star team from the Martinez-Evans Little League was 2-1 after the first three days of the Georgia Little League Championship.
The team lost their first game to Toccoa, but rebounded to win the next two. The winner of the state tournament will head to the Southeast Regional Tournament in Tampa, Fla., which is televised on ESPN.
Swimmers Compete
Eleven swimmers from the Aiken-Augusta Swim League recently traveled to the Atlanta for three days to participate in the Georgia 14 and Under Long Course Championship Meet.
Columbia County swimmers in the meet fared well.
Eric Chiu finished ninth in the 100 meter breaststroke and 18th in the 50 and 100 freestyle.
Ben Miller finished ninth in the 400 individual medley, 10th in the 200 breaststroke and 13th in the 200 backstroke.
Dixie Boys State Tournament
Columbia County Recreation Department teams lost opening round games at the 2004 state tournament in Covington.
The Columbia County 14-year-old division team lost 9-2 to Valdosta. The 13-year-olds from the Columbia County National All Stars fell to Lee County, 2-1.
