News about bus-driver settlement 'incorrect'

Posted: Wednesday, July 21, 2004

Editor,

I am writing in regard to The News-Times story about the settlement between the school board and the bus drivers.

As one of the union bus drivers in the suit I can assure you that the story was inaccurate. We never filed a grievance asking to be paid from the time we left our homes. We asked to be paid for all time worked. The $563.76 was for time worked for the previous year. We did not accept it at that time because of the legal agreement that each driver had to sign to obtain this money.

Associate Superintendent Charles Nagle is also incorrect in how we are paid. We are paid portal to portal as of last year. The $1,500 was another reason we filed the lawsuit, because this money was never given to the drivers. It was taken from our own local pay and put into a supplement.

In the future I hope The News-Times gets both sides of the story before printing incorrect statements....
