If it seems that the election season gets longer every year, it's true: with unrestricted absentee balloting that started in June and early voting last week, "election day" is becoming "election month," as drawn out as a 4-year-old's birthday celebration.
Still, most voters will wait until Tuesday to cast their primary ballots on the traditional election day. And it is to those voters that today's endorsements are directed.
The first recommendation we make to the voters of Columbia County is for re-approval of the 1-percent, special-purpose, local-option sales tax.
After extensive community input, Columbia County has put together plan for as much as $100 million in capital improvements for the next five years, including a variety of transportation, public safety and recreation projects.
Because county officials put together a list that citizens themselves requested, we expect -- and recommend -- easy passage of the penny tax renewal Tuesday.
