Columbia County residents should extend sales tax

With all the hotly debated campaigns going on in our county, I would like to remind everyone that we will also be voting on extending the 1 cent sales tax, or SPLOST.

The county has benefited immensely over the years by this program and our next extension funds many more much needed projects. We have a very impressive list of projects this time. The new Blanchard Woods Recreation Park has plenty of soccer and ball fields for our growing youth population. We have dozens of major road improvements to include the work on Washington Road. We have water and sewer enhancements as well as upgrades to the new Library. There are also allocations for new public safety equipment and facility improvements. But most notable is the absence of any funding for any projects outside of our county. All of our tax dollars are for Columbia County only.

I strongly urge all my fellow Columbia County residents to approve the extension on July 20.
