Editor:
When we go into the voting booth on Tuesday, let's stay focused on three words: Quality Of Life. While every issue on the ballot can affect the quality of our lives in some ways, the affect of the 2006-10 SPLOST referendum is immediate, direct and lasting.
When my family and I moved to Columbia County in 1973, we were served by a bookmobile. Today, we are patiently watching a big new library and performing arts theater being constructed. The services and programs that will be offered by this facility will enrich our lives for as long as we live. That is one example of what I mean by quality of life. This new library is a gift we gave to ourselves when we overwhelmingly approved the current 2001-2005 SPLOST.
Columbia County is today viewed as a desirable place to live, work and raise families. This perception is a result of our many past efforts to improve human life in all of its aspects; it is also based on the belief that we will continue these efforts in the future. ...
We can continue giving ourselves gifts that enrich and uplift our lives by approving the 2006-2010 SPLOST. We have many quality-of-life projects underway today which will require additional funding.
Let's say "Yes" to putting icing on the cake; let's say "Yes" to excellence.
