Exchange Club officers

 

Jeremy Nichols, a fifth-grader at River Eves Elementary in Roswell, Ga., took first place in the Fifth- and Sixth-grade Internet/Intranet Applications category at the Georgia Educational Technology Consortium 2004 Technology Fair. Jeremy is the son of Gary and Lola Nichols of Roswell, Ga., and grandson of Jimmie and Libbie Nichols of Evans.

The Columbia County Exchange Club has released the names of the group's 2004-2005 officers. They are:

President-Jeff Asselin, The Augusta Chronicle; Past President-Mark Ross, Putt-Putt Golf and Games; President Elect-George Lively, Financial Strategy Associates; Secretary-Chip Lowe, American International Movers; and Treasurer-Scott Adkins, Cleveland Anderson.

The Board of Directors will be: Tony Powers, Ad Ink; Bryan Evans, Platt's Funeral Home; Jeff Dorn, Georgia Bank and Trust and Jim Bible, Prudential Beazley Real Estate.

50th anniversary

Mr. and Mrs. Charles Wells of Grovetown celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a dinner reception May 29 in their daughter's home. The dinner was given by their children. They have five children and eight grandchildren.

Georgia Tech honors

The following area students earned honors at Georgia Institute of Technology for the 2004 spring semester:

Faculty Honors: Sean Coleman of Evans, Nathan Graybeal of Evans, Joshua Inouye of Evans, Beemal Shah of Evans, Christine Viebrock of Evans, Melissa Youngblood of Evans, Victoria Balcer of Martinez and Jan Scott of Martinez.

Undergraduate students earning a 4.00 academic average earn Faculty Honors.

Dean's List: Daniel Amick of Evans, Audra Bowcutt of Evans, Clinton Carnahan of Evans, Lauren Duke of Evans, Kimberly Finnell of Evans, Justin Gregg of Evans, Andrew Raines of Evans, Benjamin Roth of Evans, Eric Scukanec of Evans, Brian Murphy of Martinez, Heidi Khalil of Martinez, Kunal Khosla of Martinez, Christopher Golden of Martinez, Sirikishan Shetty of Martinez, Stephen Stephenson of Martinez, Sarah Rogers of Martinez and Rhonda Sadler of Martinez.

Undergraduate students earning a 3.00 or higher academic average for the semester gain the Dean's List distinction.

Valdosta graduate

Blenda Jean Link of Harlem has graduated from Valdosta State University with a bachelor of arts degree in English.

Union College graduate

La'Chyra C. Mitchell of Grovetown has graduated from Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. with a bachelor of arts degree in Arts.

GMC inductee

Apryl Dan McGhee will be inducted into the Beta Lambda Omicron Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa at Georgia Military College, Augusta.

McgGee, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene McGhee of Harlem, is majoring in Journalism/Broadcasting. Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest and most prestigious honor society serving two-year colleges.

Georgia Tech grad

Christine Ann Viebrock of Evans graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology on May 1 with a bachelor of science degree in Biology. She received Faculty Honors for the spring 2004 semester for achieving a 4.0 grade point average.

Musical selection

Andrew "Drew" Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Teddy Roberts of Martinez has been selected to march with the Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps of Fort Mill, S.C. for its 2004 season.

Drew attends Georgia Tech and graduated from Evans High School where he marched in the school band. He is a member of the corps' brass line.

Each year the educational organization marches 135 talented young people in The Drum Corps International Summer Music Games tour. During the tour, more than 90 Drum & Bugle Corps worldwide tour the U.S. and Canada in competition.

Texas Tech honors

Ellen Rae Tuggle has been named to Texas Tech University's Dean's List for spring 2004 semester. Tuggle of Evans, is a junior at the school in Lubbock, Texas.

To be named to the Dean's List, a student must have taken 12 quality hours during the semester and maintained a 3.5-3.9 grade point average, respectively.

SCAD Dean's List

Garrett Winston Scearce has been named to the Dean's List for the spring 2004 quarter at the Savannah College of Art and Design.

Renner, the son of Steve Scearce of Evans and Elizabeth Scearce of Athens, will be a senior in the fall.

SIU Dean's List

Several county students have been named to Southern Illinois University Carbondale's Dean's List. They are:

Zachary Thomas Curry and Charles Oliver Dillard Jr., both of Evans. JaMarvel McKinney of Grovetown. Darin B. Evans of Harlem. Donna M. Edwards, Carol Ann Elam, Phyllis L. Ferguson, Walter Leonard Linney and John C. Schipper, all of Martinez.

Agnes Scott grads

Kathryn Schroder has been inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa chapter at Agnes Scott College, Atlanta. Schroder, the daughter of Beth and Thomas Schroder of Martinez, graduated from Lakeside High School.

Each year before commencement, Agnes Scott selects a group of highly qualified seniors to its chapter of Phi Beta Kappa, a prestigious scholastic organization.

Schroder also graduated Summa Cum Laude, receiving a degree of Bachelor of Arts. She majored in English literature and creative writing.

Stephanie Large of Evans graduated from Agnes Scott. Large, the daughter of Charles and Jennifer Large, received a degree of Bachelor of Arts. She majored in history and is a graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Agnes Scott honors

Shireen Fischer of Martinez was named to Mortar Board, the National Senior Honor Society at Agnes Scott College, Atlanta. Fischer, the daughter of Paul and Asma Fischer, is a 2001 graduate of Lakeside High School.

Mortar Board is a senior honor society composed of more than 150 chapters nationwide. Members are elected from the junior class on the basis of their service, scholarship and leadership.
