It seems we spoke too soon.
Rather than closing for construction last Friday, as Columbia County officials had planned, Stevens Creek Road instead won't be shut down until Tuesday. "The preparatory work has started, but it was determined that work requiring the actual closure is not needed until July 6," says Pam Tucker, Columbia County's Emergency Services Division director.
Holding the road open until after the Independence Day weekend, while not entirely intentional, was nonetheless a good idea. But Evans commuters returning to their routines Tuesday must find a different route for the next five months.
