As the sheriff of Glynn County, I want to publicly express my appreciation to Columbia County Sheriff Clay Whittle for providing staff support to the Glynn County Sheriff's Office during the G-8 Summit held on Sea Island, Ga., in June.

Whittle was able to assist our office by sending 11 well-trained and disciplined deputies to protect life, liberty and property during this event.

Because of the assistance of Whittle and five other sheriff's offices throughout the state of Georgia, we were able to carry out our security plan. We could not have done so if it had not been for the assisting sheriff's offices. The job would have been too large and overwhelming for our relatively small agency.

I will always remember the help the Columbia County Sheriff's Office provided us in our time of need. As long as I am sheriff of Glynn County, I will do all within my power to assist Whittle and the good citizens of Columbia County should the need ever arise.

Sheriff Wayne V. Bennett

Glynn County, Ga.
