Deans' Lists

Paul Walter Green of Martinez has been named to the Dean's List at Liberty University, Lynchburg, Va.

Kellie Renee Wright of Martinez has been named to the Dean's List at Newberry College, S.C. where she recently graduated.

Stephanie Nicole Whitaker of Grovetown was named to the Dean's List at Shorter College. To be eligible for the Dean's List, a student must have a 3.5 scholastic grade point average for the semester and be registered for a minimum of 12 semester hours.

 

Lauren Kimberly Oblak made the Dean's List for the spring semester at the University of Georgia. Lauren is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Gregory Oblak of Evans. Lauren is a 2002 graduate of Greenbrier High School.

Alison Leonard of Grovetown and Leonard Manning of Martinez were named to the Dean's List at North Georgia College & State University, Dahlonega, Ga.

Students who achieve a 3.5 grade point average or better carrying 12 or more credit hours in one semester are placed on the school's Dean's List.

Ann Harrison and Devon Yeager, both of Martinez, were named to the Dean's List at State University of West Georgia, Carrollton, Ga.

Furman induction

Lindsey A. Wright, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. William Wright, has been inducted into Pi Mu Epsilon at Furman University, Greenville, S.C.

Furman scholars

Several Columbia County high school students have been named Furman Scholars by Furman University, Greenville, S.C.

The students, who demonstrated academic achievement and shown interest in attending a liberal arts college, were nominated by their high school college counselors. They all have a minimum 3.75 grade point average, rank in the top 5 percent of their classes and have strong test scores.

The Furman Scholars were: Julie A. Baunchalk of Evans, Westminster Schools of Augusta; Alexander N. Abate of Martinez, Augusta Preparatory Day School; and Keri E. Broderick of Martinez, Evans High School.

Furman Dean's List

Seven Columbia County students were named to Furman University's spring 2004 Dean's List. They were: Kathryn A. Dickson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William J. Dickson of Evans; Ashley E. Sisco, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Sisco of Evans; Stephen M. Heathman, son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald R. Heathman of Harlem; Adnan Filipovic, son of Mr. and Mrs. Damir Filipovic of Martinez; Michael G. Petrides, son of Dr. and Mrs. George Petrides of Martinez; Sara E. Wagner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Wagner of Martinez; and Jennifer A. Walters, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Gordon Walters.

Brenau University

The following announcements about area students have been made by Brenau University, Gainesville, Ga.:

Women's college graduates - Marissa Markyna of Martinez, bachelor of science degree.

Evening and weekend college graduates: master of business administration degrees - Karyn Smith and Sherry Wolkow of Evans; and Bernard Hinson of Martinez.

Bachelor of business administration degrees - Kristen Shrader, Robert Calhoun, Veronica Francois-Coleman and Christopher May of Evans; and Myra Caballero, Michele Greene, Karen Rolle, Jeremy Neal, Carolyn Williams and Debra Young of Martinez.

Bachelor of science - Steven Leathers of Evans; and Patricia Champion, David Crickard, Tabitha Shively and James Summers of Martinez.

P. Morgan Dominy II was named to the Presidents List at the University of Georgia where he earned a 4.0 grade point average. Morgan is a rising senior and plans to attend graduate school at UGA. He is the son of Phillip and Rosa Dominy of Evans.

Scott D. Forney, son of Drs. Paul Forney and Mary Ann Kotras of Martinez, has earned a doctorate of veterinary medicine degree, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, Athens. He was a 2004 recipient of a Merck Veterinary Student Award.

Southern Illinois graduates

The following area students have earned bachelor of science degrees from Southern Illinois University, Carbondale:

Grovetown - Pogiressa D. Hargitt-Scott, health care management; and Richard Eric Wheeler and Benjamin F. Wright, electronic systems.

Martinez - Donna M. Edwards, health care management; Evelyn Renee Ogwu and Christopher Travis Rowe, electronic systems.

National honor society

Ashley E. Sisco of Evans has been inducted into the Phi Eta Sigma National Honor Society at Furman University, Greenville, S.C.

Princeton theology graduate

Andrew E. Cooke of Martinez received a master of divinity degree and The Graduate Study Fellowship for the Parish Pulpit Ministry from Princeton Theological Seminary, N.J.

Lagrange College awards

Carrie Reif of Evans, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Reif, has been awarded the Phi Alpha Theta award at Lagrange College, Ga., and Emily G. Martin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jim Martin of Evans, has been awarded the David Naglee Award.

Charleston Southern graduates

James Heaney IV of Evans and Justin Brewer of Martinez have earned bachelor's degrees from Charleston Southern University, S.C.

Young Harris awards

Mary Ellen Simpson, daughter of Julie A. Sibilsky and Thomas E. Simpson of Harlem has earned an associate of science degree in education from Young Harris College, Ga.

Allison Leigh Hillman, daughter of Richard and Cheryl Hillman of Evans, has been named to the Dean's List at Young Harris College.

Brewton-Parker Dean's List

Several area students were named to Brewton-Parker College's Dean's List for the spring 2004 semester. They were:Kelly Marie Mosley of Appling; Emily Elizabeth Durham, Ashley Meyer and David N. Symons of Evans;Garry Lee Powell of Grovetown; Andrea Clardy Gaston and Nicholas A. Mooney of Martinez and Amy Elizabeth Prescott of Wrens.

To qualify, students must have been enrolled in 12 or more hours and earned a grade point average of 3.6 or better.

Valdosta Dean's List

The following area students were named to the spring 2004 Dean's List for Valdosta State University, Valdosta, Ga.:

Ruth Elizabeth Borchelt of Evans; Rebecca Elizabeth Brown of Evans and Katie Elizabeth Crislip of Evans; Blenda Jean Link of Harlem; Erin Patricia Perry of Harlem and Benjamin Robert Prange of Martinez.

To make the Dean's List, students must maintain a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale and must have a semester grade point average of at least 3.5 with at least nine hours of course work.

MUSC Grad

Pamela June Balderson, daughter of Andy and Myrtle Balderson of Evans, graduated from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, S.C., on May 21 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Cardiovascular Perfusion. Balderson, a graduate of Butler High School, currently works at Saint Joseph's Hospital of Atlanta.

UGA Scholars

Erin Dayle England of Martinez was named to the University of Georgia Dean's list for 2004 Spring semester. She was also designated as a Presidential Scholar for the May semester. Erin, a graduate of Evans High School, is a pre-business major and music minor.

Kelly Newman, a 2003 graduate of Lakeside High School, also was named a Presidential Scholar at UGA. This honor was given in recognition of the 4.0 grade point average she earned her freshman year at UGA. Kelly is the daughter of Mike and Julie Newman.

Kennesaw President's List

Sunny Danielle Price, daughter of Alan and Georgianna Simonson of Grovetown, made the President's List at Kennesaw University's Bagwell College of Education for the fall of 2003 semester and the spring of 2004 semester. Students must have earned a 4.0 semester average to be added to the President's List.

MCG Honors Graduate

Kristen Leigh Schumpf, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Schumpf of Martinez, has graduated cum laude from the Medical College of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing. She has also been inducted into Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing.

Riverside Military graduate

Stuart Swale of Evans has graduated from Riverside Military Academy, an all-male college preparatory school for grades 7-12.

Swale, son of David and Bernadine Swale, plans to attend Georgia Southern University. He received a Presidential Award from the academy at graduation.

Scholarship award

Jennifer Nelson of Evans has received a $1,000 Leadership Scholarship from Chick-fil-A.

Minnesota State honors

Starla Armstrong of Evans has been named to the high honor list at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
