Church of the year

Harlem Methodist Church was selected town church of the year for the Augusta district. The Rev. James Griffin, pastor, was presented a citation at the Georgia Annual Conference by Bishop Arthur J. Moore.

Perfect season

The Evans R.A. baseball team under the leadership of Lovelace "Doc" Fuller is having a very successful season again this summer despite the loss of several players from last year's winning team. The record to date is 11-0.

Players include Bo Rivers, catcher; Jimmy Richardson, first base; Tommy Rodgers, second base; Hugh Fuller, third base; Tony Lockee, third base; Mike Thomas, second base; William Whaley, pitcher and utility; Harold Smith, shortstop and pitcher; Joe Blanchard, center field; Edward Cuglu, left field; Gene Vintson, right field; Ray Vintson, Charles Rope and Bill Fuller, utility.

Patrol 'gets tough'

Motorists planning to travel over Georgia's highways and byways during the prolonged July 4 holiday weekend, and there will be literally thousands of them - would do well to put down as their No. 1 item on their agenda, common sense driving.

The State Highway Patrol will be out in full force - 400-plus strong - to catch all possible traffic violators. And they're going to be plenty tough on any and all drivers who get out of line.

"There will be no let up in this concentrated enforcement operation during the upcoming holiday period," according to Col. W.C. "Peck" Dominy, director of the Georgia Department of Public Safety.

Oat prices set

The 1958 price-support rate on oats in Columbia County will be 71 cents per bushel, based on oats grading No. 3 or better, John M. Price Jr. of the county Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Office announced.

Columbia County farmers will soon be receiving their payments for participation in the 1958 Acreage Reserve Program for wheat, Price said.
