Whitehead 'will stand up for us'; Brush has 'wasted' opportunity

Editor:

Many people have stopped and asked me why I am so actively supporting Jim Whitehead for state Senate. My first response has been that Jim is a good man and he can make a difference.

Truthfully, that is a knee-jerk answer. The main reason I can center my support on is that I have confidence that when push comes to shove on a particular issue, Whitehead will do what is going to be right for Columbia County.

When Joey Brush shows up, he has voted the party line and, in most cases, I would have to agree with the Republican leadership's platform. Brush has wasted a great opportunity to be an active part of shaping that platform, but he chose to be a no-show senator. He has built a reputation of doing the minimums and has demonstrated little effort in truly helping this state move forward.

In politics, the true test of character is doing what's best for one's district and following your convictions in spite of what the party or other folks in Atlanta tell you to do. We need a bulldog, not a poodle. We need a voice to advocate for our needs. We need a leader that will stand up for us.

Jim Whitehead is that kind of person. That is why he will have my vote.
