That was a great column from Barry Paschal (May 30) on the children riding the school buses and on the school bus drivers.
They have a few more pleasures than we had when we were riding school buses. ... The parents of some of the children who ride buses think they are better than others. If that is the case, let them get out of bed at 5 in the morning and get them ready and take them to school themselves.
As far as air conditioning in buses, this is something else that the taxpayers would have to foot the bill on. It is not important to have air conditioning on buses at the rising fuel cost that would cost the county more money.
Like Paschal, I could not drive a bus this day and time... . If the parents want the children to stay cool on buses, let them supply them with those portable fans like you see at those baseball games. If they want to gripe about something, let it be seat belts for the safety of their child and not the luxury of their child. It is a luxury that the county gets their child to school, not a privilege, and they should be thankful instead of griping. ...
