The Greenbrier girls track team placed third in the state finals last week.
The Lady Wolfpack competed against several other schools in the AAAA finals held in Albany May 13-15.
Strong performances in the 400 meter relay and other events gave the girls an overall point total of 34 - five fewer than second-place Marist and nine fewer than state champions North Springs.
"We were excited about the 4x1 team possibilities," Greenbrier track coach Kati Smallwood said. "We knew the times of all the other teams and that we were right up there. It was a pleasant surprise for us to win. It was very exciting."
Greenbrier girls also placed in the long jump, shotput, discus and 400 meter dash.
"While (the 400 meter relay) was a big point-getter for us, coming in third in the state was a team effort," Smallwood said. "It was all of the girls that scored points together that helped us place there."
Smallwood is also optimistic about the Lady Pack's chances of returning to the state finals next year.
"I feel like we have a good solid unit of underclassmen that will do nothing but improve," she said.
