New store coming
Leon Levine, the president of Family Dollar Stores Inc., a discount department store chain with headquarters at Charlotte, N.C., has announced that the company will open a new store in Martinez.
The new store, with 6,000 square feet of selling area, will be located at Washington Road and Devant Street.
Practice teachers
Twelve college students are participating in practice teacher training this quarter in Columbia County schools.
The practice teaching program is a cooperative program between colleges and Columbia County. The program is part of the educational and certification requirements of students completing degrees in education.
Service news
Thomas G. Quinton, the son of retired U.S. Army Master Sgt. and Mrs. Thomas N. Quinton of Grovetown, has been promoted to senior master sergeant in the U.S. Air Force.
Marine Cpl. Raymond H. Lever, the son of Mrs. Murial Brooks of Martinez, has reported for duty at the Marine Corps Air Station, New River, N.C.
Army Sgt. Calvin A. Morris, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Calvin L. Morris and wife Sharon live in Grovetown, recently participated with some 32,000 American soldiers in Caravan I, a massive field exercise in Germany.
Student honors
Janice Childs, an elementary education major at Georgia Southern College, has been assigned to Spring 1973 quarter teaching activities by the Department of Professional Laboratory Experience of the School of Education. She is the daughter of Mrs. and Mrs. Lloyd T. Childs of Martinez.
Pamelia Jo Wilkinson of Harlem is one of 55 students named to the winter quarter Dean's List of the school of nursing at the Medical College of Georgia. She is the daughter of Mr. Silvester Wilkinson and Mrs. Mabel Jean Wilkinson of Harlem.
Cadet Sammy Anderson, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sammy Anderson of Martinez, has been named to the Dean's List at the U.S. Air Force Academy.
