Arthur won the first-chair trombone spot in the Georgia Music Educator's Association 2004 All-State Concert Band in Savannah, which met Thursday through Saturday.
This was his third consecutive All-State performance.
Arthur, a sophomore, is first-chair trombone in the Greenbrier High School Wind Ensemble. The 15-year-old is the son of James and Keiko Moore of Evans.
"I always liked playing the trombone and always keep practicing and trying to get better," said Arthur, whose been playing since sixth grade.
In middle school, Arthur said he selected the trombone because it was what his father played. He plays his father's instrument, a Conn 88H from the 1970s.
"It's kind of cool to know it's the same instrument my dad used to play on," he said.
Arthur recently received a band camp scholarship from Tara Winds, an all-adult concert band in Atlanta. He said he plans to attend the University of Georgia or Florida State University's music camp this summer.
The 16 scholarship recipients from across the state were invited to join the band in playing Frank Ticheli's Shenandoah during the concert April 25 in Jonesboro, Ga. The guest soloist for the concert was Tom "Bones" Malone from David Letterman's CBS Orchestra.
Arthur performs weekly in the Warren Baptist Church Sanctuary Orchestra. He also has been invited to perform with the Georgia Lions All-State Band at its state convention in Savannah in June and at the Lions International Convention in Windsor, Canada, in July.
He practices 30 minutes a day and takes private lessons from Steve Pruitt, band director at Riverside Middle School.
"I want to continue to keep playing in college, and hopefully I can continue to join groups like Tara Winds and keep playing," Arthur said.
