Girls get awards

Harlem High School will be in the spotlight Saturday when Henrietta Bass and Clare Davis, two members of the Harlem Future Homemakers of America chapter, receive state homemaking degrees, the highest state award that can be given, at the 13th annual state convention of FHA in Atlanta.

Camilla Prather, Harlem High School homemaking teacher, will receive an honorary membership in the FHA.

Scouts promoted

Seven Boy Scouts have been promoted to Second Class after having been properly examined and found qualified. Promotions include Pat Blanchard, Explorer, and the following six Scouts: Kent Anderson, Phil Blanchard, John Al Dempsey, Chris Dozier, George "Butch" Mills and James Thomas.

Sales tax collected

Columbia County retailers collected $9,935.54 in sales tax during the month of February 1958, according to figures compiled by the Georgia Department of Revenue.

Youth elected

William Henry Fields, of Grovetown, a senior at Georgia Tech, has been elected president of the Georgia Baptist Student Union Convention.

Fields is the son of Mrs. J.N. Fields and the late John N. Fields of Grovetown. He was an honor graduate of the Academy of Richmond County and is majoring in textile engineering.

Soldier ends training

Pvt. David E. Grimaud, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Grimaud of Grovetown, completed the final phase of six months of active military training April 12 under the Reserve Forces Act program at Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, Texas.

Grimaud is scheduled to spend the remainder of his military service with the 466th General Hospital in Augusta.

A 1951 graduate of Evans High School, he attended Junior College of Augusta. Grimaud was employed by Colonial Stores in Augusta before going on active duty.

Dozier honored

Dorothy Dozier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. T. Albert Dozier of Winfield, has been invited to join Phi Upsilon Omicron, the honorary Home Economics Sorority at the University of Georgia.

Dozier was also among those in the School of Home Economics who made the dean's list for winter quarter.
