Dean's Lists

The following local students were named to the dean's list at the Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, Ga., for fall quarter 2003: Joanna Faithe Renner, of Evans, a fashion major and daughter of Gene and Sharon Renner; and Sandra Michelle Deer, of Martinez, an architecture major and daughter of Charles Deer.

Magaela Christina Luke of Evans made the Dean's List at Georgia Southern University. The daughter of Cassandra and McGahee Luke Sr., Magaela graduated from Lakeside High School in 2003. She works part-time at Harbor Inn Seafood restaurant and is vice-president of Georgia Southern's Association of Future Physicians.

The following students have been named to the Medical College of Georgia School of Allied Health Sciences Dean's List for the 2003 fall semester. Students earning a 3.5 grade point average or higher are named to the Dean's List.

Dental hygiene: Jana S. Dagley, Shannon L. Dekle and Crystal M. Jones of Evans; Amy M. Hendrickson and Lisa C. Lerch of Martinez; and Lelania K. Huey and Jennifer C. Morris of Appling.

Diagnostic medical sonography: Susan A. Lee of Martinez and Mi I. Powell of Evans.

Health information management: Sherilyn M. Guerrero of Evans and Christine M. Shaffer of Appling.

Nuclear medicine technology: Stacy M. Tanner of Martinez.

Occupational therapy: Lindsay D. Murray of Grovetown, and Sidra S. Ahmad, Cheryl F. Davidson and Jeanine L. Kenny of Martinez.

Physician assistants: Rhonda R. Carrick, Rebecca D. Cono, Frank A. Eberheart, Jerrie D. Freeman, Kevin C. Lack and Marian F. Layne of Martinez; Sharon L. Coffield, Brian E. Matthews, Michael D. McDaniel and Mary A. Eck of Evans; and Dena M. Hammond of Grovetown.

Radiography: Christopher M. Moon of Martinez.

Respiratory therapy: Lindsay H. Carter of Appling.

Pageant finalist

Appling resident Courtney Marie Arthur, 15, has been chosen as a state finalist in the National American Miss Georgia Pageant to be July 4 in Atlanta. The winner of the pageant will receive a $1,000 cash award, the official crown and banner, a bouquet of roses, and air transportation to compete in the national pageant in Disney Land in California. She is the daughter of John and Michelle Rogers.

Dana Scholar

Agnes Scott College class of 2005 student Shireen Fischer of Martinez was selected as a 2003-2004 Charles A. Dana Scholar for her outstanding academic achievement and demonstrated leadership in college activities.

Fischer graduated from Lakeside High School in 2001. Her parents are Paul and Asma Fischer.

Each Dana scholar is awarded $500 for the 2003-2004 academic year. Scholars are selected based upon their performance during the previous year.
