Work on the site plan has begun at the county's new elementary school at Mullikin and Conn roads.
George McDavid, of One Source Development LLC, was hired to develop the site plan. The site work is scheduled to begin May 1 and is expected to cost $1.2 million, School Superintendent Tommy Price said.
Hughes Beattie O'Neill Law & Associates Architects-Planners will oversee the construction of the 36-room school.
The design of the school will be nearly identical to Lewiston Elementary School, which opened this year and cost $6 million to build.
The new school, which will relieve Riverside Elementary, Stevens Creek Elementary and Greenbrier Elementary, is expected to open its doors for the 2005-06 school year.
McDavid recently presented the school board with a preliminary site plan for the 24.43-acre campus.
The new school is expected to have two entrances, a parent entrance off Mullikin and a bus entrance off Conn Road. It also will have room for three playgrounds, one to serve each wing of the school. Each wing has the potential to expand by four classrooms, McDavid said. Water lines in the area will likely have to be improved to serve the school, he said.
