She choose physics teacher Craig Baker as her STAR teacher because he always goes the extra mile to make learning fun.
"He's the funniest teacher I've ever had," said Toni, who is president of the school's Science Club. "He had us doing some very interesting labs, like weighing Santa Claus on the elevator at Augusta Mall for extra credit."
This is Baker's first time being named STAR teacher. He has taught at Harlem High for six years.
"I feel honored that Toni chose me as her STAR teacher," Baker said. "It's kind of awkward being named the STAR teacher because so many teachers in Toni's life have helped her on her way to success. She was brilliant long before she ever entered the doors of honors physics."
Toni plays trumpet in the school's marching and concert bands and is a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society and Beta Club. She also serves as the art editor of the school's literary magazine, Paw Prints.
"Toni is a hard working student who enjoys learning," said Baker, who taught Toni honors physics during her junior year. "She has a positive attitude, outstanding work habits and a great personality. She's a joy to teach."
Toni has already been accepted to the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she will begin classes in the fall. She plans to pursue a degree in architecture.
