Winter Invitational swim meet
The Augusta Aquatics Center is the venue for the ASL Honda Cars of Aiken Winter Invitational. The swim meet runs Friday-Sunday and will feature about 700 swimmers from two dozen teams.
The USA Swimming-sanctioned meet is held by the Aiken-Augusta Swim League. There will be a prelim-finals format, where the fastest 16 swimmers from preliminary heats convene in the evening to compete in the finals.
Spectators who wish to attend the seniors events should be at the center on Saturday and Sunday mornings.
Events for the 10-and-under swimmers are scheduled for both afternoons. Finals are scheduled to begin at 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
Junior tennis winners
The Fall 2003 Junior Tennis League capped a successful season, as 240 juniors participated on 22 different teams in six divisions.
Following are the winning teams and their captains: 10-and-under West Lake Warlords, Vicki Kerzic; 12-and-under beginner/intermediate MACH All-stars, Henry Taylor; 14-and-under beginner/intermediate Newman Nicks, Lisa Krupp; 14-and-under intermediate West Lake Whippets, Jim Irish; 14 intermediate/advanced Petersburg Punishers, Susan Granade.
Here are the results from the Fall 2003 Tournament: Co-ed 10-and-under winner, Taylor Powell; finalist, Denton Boone; consolation winner, Rahul Saha; consolation finalist, Tyler Martin; Co-ed 12-and-under winner, Austin Coleman; finalist, Kay Barksdale; consolation finalists, Clint Howell and Connor Lacey; Co-ed 12-and-under intermediate finalists, Maggie Dunstan and Andrew Byrd; consolation winner, Makeytha Chapman; consolation finalist, Meredith Cranford; Girls Over-14 winner, Meha Jha; finalist, Caroline Granade; Boys Over-14 winner, Patrick May; finalist, Ravi Jha.
Soccer tournament
A TST 6v6 Soccer Tournament will be held Saturday at Citizens Park in Aiken. Divisions include Mens Open and Rec, and boys and girls divisions for high school, under-14, under-12, and under-10. The cost is $125 per team. Each team is guaranteed three matches, and the champions will receive individual awards. Registration deadline is Jan. 28.
