The public will have the opportunity to hear the Savannah River Winds ensemble as they prepare to perform at the Georgia Music Educators Annual Convention in Savannah and District 10 Honor Band Clinic.
The first performance is at the North Augusta High School Auditorium on Tuesday at 7:15 p.m, which will be a dress rehearsal for their performance at the convention in Savannah later that week.
After the convention, a local performance is set for Feb. 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the Maxwell Arts Performing Center on the campus of Augusta State University. The band also will perform at the Hopeland Gardens concert series in Aiken, S.C., at 7 p.m. May 17.
Savannah River Winds was established in 2001 by Lou Cefus and Richard D. Brasco, the former Evans High School band director. The ensemble is composed of band directors, university professors, musicians from various professional fields and college students from Georgia and South Carolina. Membership in the group is by invitation or audition.
The ensemble has performed for the Memorial Day celebration in Columbia County and for the GMEA District 10 Honor Band Clinic on the campus of Augusta State University. They also have performed at the North Augusta Living Heritage Park concert series and at the Hopeland Gardens concert series in Aiken.
The Savannah River Winds will play at the GMEA convention Thursday at 2:45 p.m. in the Johnny Mercer Auditorium at the convention center in Savannah.
