I thought it was extremely ironic that the Jan. 4 News-Times featured a story on the front page about a responsible pet owner, while the back page, as always, featured pictures of pets that were in need of homes due to irresponsible pet owners.
I agree with Luanne Price, who rescued the two wolf hybrids, that the Georgia law banning the ownership of these animals is based on ignorance. Georgias Depart-ment of Natural Resources believes these animals display a certain behavior, which is being extremely loyal to a certain person or space. Well, so does my dog, and Im sure many other dogs, regardless of breed, do also. This becomes a problem usually because of irresponsible owners, not because of the breed of the dog.
Even though the dogs were owned prior to the 1994 law banning the ownership of wolf hybrids, it seems Price lost them due the technicality of her being the new owner by doing the right thing and contacting the Georgia DNR.
Its a shame that Kiowa and Pawnee, who have endured so much and had finally gotten the loving home that they deserve, then had to be sent somewhere else just to be able to stay alive.
