Peace movement

The first of a five-part peace education series on Pax Christi, the Catholic peace movement, will be 7-9 p.m. Jan. 20 in the Upper Room of St. Mary on the Hill School. The other sessions will be Feb. 3 and 10. The sessions are open to anyone desiring to build peace in the new year. The cost is $5 for materials. For more information, call the Rev. Cookies on sale

Sales of Girl Scout cookies begin Saturday with door-to-door sales in the area. Deliveries and booth sales will begin in late February. For more information, call 774-0505.

Library closed

Columbia County libraries will be closed Monday as the state and regional library computer database is updated. The Gibbs Library Book Discussion Group will meet as scheduled at 7 p.m. Monday.

There will be a presentation of Civil War artifacts by the First Independent Brigade 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 24 at Euchee Creek Library.

Phil Driscoll concert

Christian musician Phil Driscoll will appear in concert at 7 p.m. Jan. 23 at In Focus Church, 562 Old Evans Road, Evans, behind Fat Mans West. Admission is free, but an offering will be taken. For more information, call 868-7788.

Hardy meeting

Greyhound adoption

GreytHound Love-Greyhound Adoption, a CSRA group, will hold a session for the public to meet several retired racing greyhounds available for adoption. The event will be 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at PetSmart on Robert C. Daniel Parkway.

Blood drive

The Fifth Annual Columbia County Emergency Management Agency Winter Blood Drive with the Shepeard Community Blood Center will be 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Jan. 29. The drive will be at the Columbia County Government Center Auditorium (Building A), located on Ronald Reagan Drive in Evans.
