Campus leaders

The 2004 edition of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges will include the names of 18 students from Augusta State University who have been selected as national outstanding campus leaders.

Campus nominating committees and editors of the annual directory have included the names of these students based on their academic achievement, service to the community, leadership in extracurricular activities and potential for continued success.

They join students from more than 2,300 institutions of higher learning in all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and several nations. Outstanding students have been honored in the annual directory since it was first published in 1934.

Students named this year from ASU include:

Jacquelyn Cari Allen of Evans is majoring in art; Ankur Arora of Augusta is majoring in biology; Sara E. Bennett of Evans is majoring in accounting; Natalia Delgado Chegwin of Augusta is majoring in English; Samuel Harmon of Augusta is majoring in marketing; Khin W. Hlaing of Augusta is majoring in accounting; Thomas M. Huff of Grovetown is majoring in biology; Shavonne R. Joyner of Augusta is majoring in business management; Katie S. Lamar of Augusta is majoring in history; Kelli R. Moore of Martinez is majoring in Spanish; Lynda J. Napier of Augusta is majoring in biology; Aarika C. Nathan of Augusta is majoring in finance; Kathryn R. Newton of Augusta is majoring in English; Karen E. Sturgill of Aiken is majoring in communications; Andrea L. Valdez of Martinez is majoring in history; Patricia N. Williford of Stapleton, Ga., is majoring in English; Cassandra J. Zahn of Augusta is majoring in business management; and Shawna L. Pastor-Price of Augusta is majoring in sociology.

Honor society

Jake Armstrong, son of Mr. and Mrs. James H. Armstrong Jr., was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa honor society at Emory University, Atlanta.

IIT graduate

Erin Renae Moe of Martinez graduated from Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago during commencement ceremonies Dec. 14, 2003.

Moe received a Master of Chemistry degree in analytical chemistry.

Brenau honors

Columbia County students have been named to the Dean's List and Merit List for fall semester 2003 from Brenau University.

Named to the Dean's List are Victoria Ruth Henderson and Kristen Michelle Shrader of Evans; April May Fowler of Grovetown; and Scott Mitchell Adam, Patricia B. Champion and David Allen Crickard of Martinez.

Named to the Merit List are Deidre Cummings and Gloria McCladdie of Appling; Lori Daley, Scott Gay, Jeffrey Hohneke, Steven Leathers, Christopher May, Kenneth McKinzie, Christine Paluba and Janelle Santiago or Evans; Kent Christiansen, Wendy Jordan, Yvette Vega and My-Thanh Nguyen of Grovetown; and Morgan Joines, Deanna Kelly and Marissa Markyna of Martinez.

Dean's List students must maintain a 3.5 grade-point average while carrying a minimum of 15 semester hours of course work; Merit List students must maintain a 3.5 GPA while carrying 12 to 14 semester hours of course work.
